Man is inherently a social animal. He is measured and analyzed according to his relationship with others. His status, his dreams, and his affiliations are all influenced by outside and internal forces. My story, like everyone else’s, is unique. The following is what marks me as different.
I was raised in a typical Filipino family of five. A cultural value my family was the close kin oriented atmosphere. In 1986, my father migrated to Guam, so as to provide the provisions of a better life for us, his children. We have remained since. In 1990, my parents divorced, and I was placed into the custody of my mother.
In my future, I see many things for me. I plan to take medical technology in college, and then hopefully move up to become a doctor, in the field of family practice. I’ve always wanted to become a medical doctor.
I am involved in many extra curricular groups. One of them is Student Council, which I have been a member with since my freshmen year, in my senior year I am now it’s President. It was a challenge that I will remember my whole life. Another organization I am involved with is the National Honor Society. I was one of a few inducted during my sophomore year. I chair various committees in this organization. A last activity I consider important is Yearbook, of which I am Editor-In- Chief. I really enjoy this class for two reasons. One is because of the fast paced, challenge filled environment of deadlines and editing, and another reason is that I really love journalism. Other extra- curricular activities I am involved in include Junior Statesmen of America, Soccer, and Junior Achievement.
Many people throughout my school- life have remarked on my abilities as a leader. I have held numerous leadership positions over the course of many years. They include Student Council President, National honor Society Public Relations Chair, and Yearbook Editor-In Chief.
Through many activities I have not failed to serve the community. In Student Council we help out by serving many of the parents during the weekends. By my membership in Close-Up I was able to serve various organizations like the Sugar Plum Tree Foundation, and the Salvation Army. I volunteer at the hospital by doing sundry jobs such as painting the parking lot, and cleaning up the lobby.
I believe that the experiences I’ve been through
have made me a stronger person who holds fast to the ideals instilled in him by
his parents and teachers. The future is a blank canvas to me, and like Alfred J.
Montepert said, “Move out man! Life is fleeting by. Do something worthwhile,
before you die. Leave behind a work sublime, that will outlive you and time.”
